WHY CliC SargeNT?

CLIC Sargent is a fantastic charity that provides vital help and support to children with cancer and their parents. 10 children a day are diagnosed with cancer in the UK and instead of having a carefree and fun childhood, they are shuttled between hospitals and undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy. For parents the question is always the same - Why my child?

Family and friends will always be there to provide support during difficult times. However, we are not in a position to truly understand what the parents are going through. CLIC Sargent provides much needed access to support workers. By organising days out for parents, they allow them meet fellow sufferers who are able to provide advice and perspective. They also provide the background assistance that is invaluable - parking permits, disability benefits, carer allowances and counselling.

In 2011 I watched as cancer ravaged Alexsei Fattakhov, the 7 year old son of one of my closest friends, Ilya and Charlene. During these horrific 18 months, Clic Sargent helped look after Alexsei's 1 year old sister, Annabella during hospital visits. They visited Ilya and Charlene regularly and provided much needed psychological support. Unfortunately, Alexsei died in June 2012.

CLIC Sargent organise meetings and outings for bereaved parents. These allowed Ilya and Charlene to meet other bereaved parents who were able to shed perspective, give advice and be there for them. Throughout the whole ordeal and after, CLIC Sargent gave a vital element of help and insightful support that ordinary friends and family were unqualified to provide.

Having seen the incalculable support that CLIC Sargent provided first hand, we are proud to be able to raise money for this fantastic charity.

Please note: Our expedition is entirely self-funded. All monies that we collect will go to CLIC Sargent.
